On the school bus, a boy smells “something strange,” looks at the driver, and dials 911.

Troy Luna’s parents warned him not to trust strangers, but they hoped he would never have to use this advice. They were mistaken.

Troy Luna noticed something ‘weird’ about the bus driver one day as he boarded his bus to return home from school.

This 10-year-keen old’s observation and bravery were credited with saving his classmates from a potentially fatal situation.

“A smoky kind of smell and like a weird smell together,” Troy described the bus driver’s odor.

The California student was concerned about the bus driver’s driving and kept a close eye on her.

“She hit the brakes really hard, and a couple of the kids flew,” Troy told CBS Sacramento.

The driver was stopped after 911 was called.

When the driver missed a turn and sped onto the highway, Troy realized something was wrong.

The astute 10-year-old dialed 911, and officers arrived at her next stop to apprehend the driver.

“I was like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to call 911.’” Troy stated. “And I made the decision.”

“My friends were trying to talk me out of it,” Troy told Fox News. “‘I don’t care, I don’t feel right,’ I said. So that’s what I did.”

‘Failure of a sobriety test’

The driver, who was in charge of around 30 children aged 5 to 10, was pulled over by police and failed a sobriety test.

According to CBS Sacramento, she was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of children.

Despite what his friends said, Troy followed his instincts and did the right thing. It’s critical to know when to step away from the crowd. What a champion!
