The proverb “timing is everything” is one that all of us are familiar with, and it couldn’t be more accurate! Just ask this Ohio woman, whose timing of when she went into labor was obviously interesting due to the circumstances surrounding the situation.
Her child did not wait to be born until its mother arrived at the hospital. She made the decision to enter this world at her own pace, even if it meant having her baby delivered in the comfort of her own driveway.
Alyson Michael reported that she began to experience pain in her stomach at 1:30 in the morning. She was already the mother of three boys, so she was familiar with the pain of labor when she went into active labor at approximately 3:20 in the morning. She made a move to go downstairs in the expectation that she and her husband would soon be able to go to the hospital, but her daughter had other ideas in mind.
Alyson described the moment she realized they wouldn’t be able to save themselves as following: “I was like at the bedroom door and that’s when I felt it and I was like, ‘Call 911 and get me downstairs,’ and that’s when I knew we weren’t going to make it.” “She had expressed interest in making an appearance. That much is certain. Because she has three brothers, she needs to be able to keep up with them.
John Smith, Alyson’s husband, dialed 911, and she was assisted by Medina County deputies while she waited for a four-person crew from Westfield Fire and Rescue. Westfield Fire and Rescue When they arrived, one of the firefighters and EMT Brandy Crall were given a message that read “4TH BABY.” when they arrived.
That message served as a warning about the possibility of a delivery. As Alyson prepared to give birth, Brandy was prepared and focused on ensuring that she remained calm throughout the process.
Brandy explained, “We definitely made eye contact with each other, and she was like, ‘I’m having this baby.’”
Brandy reported that the woman was still upright. We were unable to place her in a position where she was able to lie down. I lifted up her nightgown to reveal the head, and there it was.
Clara Mae Smith made her debut, and Brandy was the one who brought her to our attention. It only took a few minutes. She tipped the scales at a little under 5 pounds.
Brandy shared her experience, stating, “As soon as I moved the cord, she landed right in my hands.” “When I looked at the time on my monitor, it was 3:47 already! When you were born! That was the crowning achievement of my professional life. Nothing even comes close to matching it.”
The umbilical cord was cut by the Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Hall, the delivery of the baby was supervised by the paramedic DeAnte Taylor, and the Safety Officer Dave Young was the one who drove Alyson and Clare to the hospital.
Alyson stated that she is still trying to come to terms with this information, but that she is extremely grateful to the emergency personnel.
They unquestionably play an important role in Clara’s life. “There’s no doubt about it,” Alyson stated. “There is no question in my mind that what took place was a miracle in and of itself.”
