How Patrick Mahomes Was Transformed by His Christian Faith and Uses It to Encourage Others

Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs who are playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday, is a man of faith.

Mahomes has relied on God throughout his football career and isn’t afraid to share Christ with others.

His family couldn’t be prouder of his faith in Christ!

When Mahomes was playing at Texas Tech, his mother was interviewed by IN Magazine. At the time, she talked about her son’s strong faith in God.

“In middle school, he got real involved with his youth group,” Randi told IN Magazine. “He got saved. There was a night at church, he had his hands raised to the Lord and he was singing. I just felt overcome with this most awesome moment, more than any football game, because I knew where his heart truly is.”

Mahomes used social media as a platform to share his faith with his Twitter followers.

He has also used his social media to encourage prayer for teammates. Following former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith’s season-ending injury, he called on his fans to pray for him in a special way.

As Mahomes has gained attention and notoriety, his mother continues to encourage him to trust in God and his faith in Him.

“I want him to stay humble; That means a lot to me,” Martin shared in an interview with KSHB Kansas City. “I always encourage him to pray and to thank God for his blessings that he has and his abilities.”

Many seventh graders nowadays aren’t thinking about their salvation, but Mahomes faith came first.

When he was in the seventh grade, he made the important decision to get baptized. This was a major turning point in his life.

The Ringer reported:

“[Mahomes] faced another “grown-man decision,” as Hawkins called it. After his parents divorced when he was young, he’d made a lot of them. Living with his mom, he took on more chores. Sometimes he declined friends’ invitations to hang out because he needed to watch his two younger siblings. In the seventh grade, he chose to get himself baptized; he wanted, his mom said, “to become a man in church.”

It’s crazy to think there was a time when Mahomes was considering leaving the football field, but he did. When he was in high school, following losing a quarterback battle, he almost left the game. Martin told him to pray on it before he made the decision.

Sports Illustrated reported:

“Mahomes, in fact, nearly quit football the summer before his junior year of high school, according to his mother, Randi. He’d played safety as a sophomore and felt he didn’t get a fair shot at the position he wanted, quarterback. Rather than enter a QB competition as a junior, he figured he’d concentrate on basketball and baseball. (Mahomes would be drafted by the Detroit Tigers at the conclusion of his senior year in 2014, in the 37th round.) His mother encouraged him to pray on it.”

As Mahomes continues soaring in his football career, we pray he continues to stay grounded in his Christian faith!
